SaberCats Name Head Football Coach

SAN JOSE, CA -- The San Jose SaberCats are proud to announce the hiring of Michael Nash as the team’s new Head Football Coach for the upcoming 2025 National Gridiron League season. A military veteran, former police officer, and high school football coach, Nash brings a powerful blend of leadership, discipline, and football experience to the helm of the SaberCats program.

Coach Nash’s background is rooted in service and structure. Having served in the U.S. military and later as a police officer, he brings a no-nonsense approach to team leadership, emphasizing accountability, mental toughness, and unity. These core principles have shaped his coaching philosophy and made him a respected figure among players and peers throughout his career in both law enforcement and athletics.

“Coach Nash represents the kind of leadership and integrity we want at the foundation of this franchise,” said National Gridiron League President Joe McClendon III. “His life experience, ability to connect with young men, and commitment to excellence make him the ideal choice to lead the SaberCats as we build a team the San Jose community can rally behind.”

Before joining the professional ranks, Nash spent several years coaching at the high school level, where he played a key role in developing players on and off the field. Known for building discipline, Nash’s programs were recognized for their strong fundamentals and unrelenting effort. His leadership helped student-athletes grow into better players and better people.

Now stepping into the professional spotlight, Coach Nash is prepared to bring that same intensity and commitment to the SaberCats organization. 

The SaberCats are set to play their home games at the newly constructed SaberCats Stadium at Alviso Park. As the team prepares for training camp and its first season in the National Gridiron League, Coach Nash will lead efforts to assemble his staff, evaluate talent, and shape a roster that reflects San Jose's heart and toughness.
