Training Camps Set To Begin On Saturday, May 17th
JACKSONVILLE, FL -- As excitement continues to build for the 2025 National Gridiron League (NGL) season, all eight active league franchises will officially kick off team training camps on Saturday, May 17th.
With anticipation growing among fans, coaches, and players alike, the launch of training camps marks a critical step in preparing for what promises to be a competitive and action-packed season of professional spring football.
Each NGL team will open camp with a full slate of practices, conditioning sessions, and team meetings to solidify rosters, install offensive and defensive schemes, and evaluate player performance ahead of the upcoming season. Training camps will be held in local team markets, allowing fans and media to get a first look at the teams as they take shape.
“Training camp is where the real identity of a team begins to take form,” said NGL Commissioner Joe McClendon III. “We’re excited to see the talent and energy these teams will bring to the field, and this extended camp period will give players and coaches the time they need to build strong foundations heading into the season.”
The announcement follows a recent schedule adjustment made by the league to ensure all teams are adequately prepared. Originally slated to begin regular season play earlier in May, the NGL has moved the official regular season start date to Saturday, May 31st. This change provides teams two additional weeks for training, player recruitment, and administrative planning.
Commissioner McClendon explained that the decision was made after careful consideration of several logistical and operational factors. “After conversations with team management and reviewing venue availability across the league, we decided to make this adjustment in the best interest of our players, coaches, and fans,” said McClendon. “It not only allows more time for teams to finalize their rosters and develop cohesion but also helps avoid any early-season scheduling conflicts at our home venues.”
This adjustment is expected to enhance the quality of play from Week 1 and give fans a more competitive product right out of the gate. The delay also allows NGL teams additional flexibility to continue scouting, hosting player tryouts, and finalizing practice and stadium operations.
As teams head into training camp, players will compete for roster spots and opportunities to make their mark in the league’s inaugural spring season. With only 24 roster spots available per team, competition will be fierce, and every rep in camp will matter.
The National Gridiron League, which features an exciting outdoor eight-man football format, continues to distinguish itself as a destination for rising professional talent and high-impact entertainment. With training camps beginning May 17th and regular season games kicking off on May 31st, fans won’t have to wait much longer to witness the return of spring football at its finest.
